The York County Local Food Summit

Penn State Extension- York has partnered with York City Bureau of Health, the York Chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local®, Sonnewald Natural Foods, YorKitchen, Sunnyside Farm, Spoutwood Farm and Wellspan Health to host The York County Local Food Summit on November 7th, 2012. The exciting event coming to York will feature discussion about creating a sustainable and localized food system in York County. The summit will bring food producers, distributors, processors, retailers, wholesalers, agencies, nonprofits, schools, educators, and government representatives together to address the topic. The day will be cost-effective, interactive, educational, and enlightening to serve as a springboard for further events, policy change, action and feasible planning so as to make the idea of a sustainable York County a reality.
Keynote Speaker for the Summit will be filmmaker Ana Sofia Joanes who directed and produced the movie “Fresh.” “Fresh” celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people who are reinventing our American food system. Among those featured in “Fresh” and offering a practical vision for the future of our food are farmer-entrepreneur Joel Salatin, best-selling author Michael Pollan and urban farm pioneer Will Allen. Included in the dozen breakout session topics addressed by the Summit will be “Building A Local Food System,” “Community Gardening with Youth,” “Wholesale Food Distribution Round-Table,” “Funding Local Food Systems,” and “The Politics of Local Food Policy.”
Please join The York County Local Food Summit on November 7th, 2012 at the York County 4-H Center located at 771 Stoverstown Rd, York PA 17408. This workshop is open to anyone interested in sustaining a localized food system in York County.
