Managing Silo Fire Emergencies
Penn State Master Gardeners are offering a Summer Garden Camp for youth ages 7 to 12 or in grades 3 to 6 at the Penn State Extension office on Allen Road in Carlisle. There will be five sessions of growing, learning, hands-on fun on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the following dates: June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, and August 6, 2013.

Penn State Extension and the Penn State Southeast Agricultural Research and Education Center (SEAREC) will be hosting an agronomic field day for farmers, industry representatives, and other agricultural professionals. The 2013 field day will strive to provide both industry and the farming community with current production agriculture related topics and concerns. You will also have the opportunity to visit with our sponsors from the chemical industry, the seed industry, local equipment dealers, ag lenders, and other crop production professionals. Not just another garden tour, the Gardening with Native Plants – The Tour is a great opportunity to learn how to make your yard more environmentally friendly. Sponsored by Penn State Extension and Mid-Atlantic Ecological Landscapes (MAEscapes) five homeowners in York County will open their properties on Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and show you how they are using native plants to conserve water, reduce pesticide and fertilizer use and create habitat for wildlife.

Mark your calendars now for the 2013 International Fruit Tree Association Study Tour July 16-17, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The theme of the tour is Heritage and Innovation. Plan on a barbecue at the Round Barn Orchard on the first night of the tour. The Young Grower Alliance (YGA) led the planning for the tour, which will include optional opportunities to visit orchards on the 15th in Bedford County and the 18th in Thurmont, Maryland. The Historic Gettysburg Hotel will be the tour Headquarters.
Opportunities for growers and industry personnel to learn about the latest Penn State research, to tour facilities and research field plots, and engage in Q & A with research and Extension faculty.
Wholesale nursery growers and garden center employees, spend a morning at Root’s Nurseries learning how to identify ornamental plant pests and problems, along with various management strategies.
