Greendance Winery hosts Extension Workshop

- In late April, twenty-five commercial wine grape producers and winemakers from Southwestern Pennsylvania gathered for a Penn State Extension field day at Greendance Winery in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County. Viticulture Educators Mark Chien and Andy Muza discussed variety selection, pruning, canopy management, and pest control in the vineyard. During the tour of the wine production facilities, Penn State Enologist Denise Gardner pointed out the challenge of planning for adequate growth of operational facilities as wine production increases. Extension Educator Bob Pollock and horticulture consultant (and retired Extension Educator) Eric Oesterling provided an air blast sprayer demonstration

Monthly webinar series on land-use issues began on January 16

- On January 16th, over 75 people from across Pennsylvania and beyond signed on to a new Land-Use Educational Webinar Series. The series is produced by the Land-Use and Local-Decision-Making educators of the Penn State Extension Economic and Community Development State Extension Team. Participants in the first session included professional planners, citizen planners, and others wishing to learn how to benefit their communities through the use of better planning.
