Strengthening Families Program Facilitators Class of 2012
Posted: August 15, 2012
Facilitators lead seven highly interactive sessions to help build life skills in youth, including stress management, conflict resolution, and communication. Parent sessions help to enhance and promote effective parenting styles while the family sessions help to strengthen family bonds, promote positive communication and enhance the ability to solve problems together. The program focuses on setting appropriate limits, using consequences, protecting against substance abuse, handling peer pressure, reaching out for help, understanding family values, and building family communication. The youth sessions also include topics such as identifying positive goals for the future, appreciating parents, following rules and resisting peer pressure. Registrations are currently being taken for the Greensburg-Salem and Monessen middle school programs. SFP 10-14 is offered free to all 6th grade families. Each session begins with a family meal and sibling care is provided for younger children in the family. All of the workshop participants completing the 3 day training currently work in the field of youth and families either in school districts, day care centers or human service agencies. They each bring a tremendous amount of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to their new role of SFP facilitator.
