About Us
Everyone lives in a watershed and all of the activities that happen within watersheds impact the water we rely on. The Pennsylvania Discovery Watersheds Initiative is designed to facilitate cooperation among the residents, agencies and associations that live in a watershed.
The initiative is a statewide program offered by Penn State Extension that promotes a partnership approach to holistically address non-point source pollution stemming from activities across residential-, agricultural-, forested-, commercial-, and municipal landscapes.
Goals: To Provide tools that will help communities:
- Reduce pollutant loads
- Improve local water quality
- Remove stream impairments
- Enhance communication among statewide partners.
The program will extend lessons learned from pilots such as the Conewago Creek Collaborative Conservation Initiative (CCCCI), a 3-year pilot project in Lancaster-, Lebanon-, and Dauphin Counties, and other successful statewide programs to make them readily accessible to watershed efforts statewide.
