Allentown and Surrounding FarmsAre you planning to make the leap from vegetable gardening to production for profit? Are you in the first few years of organic vegetable production and ready to refine your techniques to optimize your production and profit? This course is for you. At all experience levels, efficiency, planning, appropriate and effective tools are key. The objective of this course is to introduce aspiring and new vegetable producers to diverse production strategies and provide a framework for effective farm production planning. This course will cover soil preparation, seeding, transplanting, weed management, pest management and farm planning. Morning classroom sessions will include presentations by Penn State extension educators and from experienced farmers, film presentation of weed control and other techniques, and interactive discussion. In the afternoon we will move to the field where the Lehigh County Agricultural Incubator and local farms will serve as living classrooms. Participants will try new techniques and tools appropriate for both the small and large farm. This is part of a five part, monthly series.
