Research Stations
The Fruit Research and Extension Center (FREC) in Biglerville is situated on 125 acres of fertile land in south-central Pennsylvania, in the heart of the major tree fruit production area of the state. The center's total orchard and land holdings include an additional 55 acres approximately three miles west of Biglerville, near Arendtsville.
This 40-acre facility, located about 15 miles east of Erie, serves the grape-processing industry, which has a strong presence along the Lake Erie coastline in Pennsylvania and New York.
The Center is located in Rock Spring, Pennsylvania, which is about 10 miles southwest of University Park and comprises 2,000 acres of land.
The Center is located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and research on the 156 acres at the Center involves the Departments of Crop and Soil Science, Entomology, Horticulture and Plant Pathology plus the USDA and some county extension educators.
