Penn State On-Farm Research in Potter County
Posted: October 11, 2012
Penn State’s Senior Project Associate, Ron Hoover, recently visited Potter County with his no-til drill to seed an acre of cover crops for an ongoing demonstration project looking at nutrient sequestration on small dairy farms across Pennsylvania. Phil Lehman, a local dairy farmer, agreed to host the demonstration plot. Lehman has experience with cover crops, planting them in past years for additional forage. He more recently adopted a truer cover crop practice, leaving the winter crop’s biomass as residue in the spring to improve soil structure, replenish soil nutrients and increase weed suppression. To learn more about this project, join us on Wednesday, November 7th from 10am to noon for a Field Day at the plot on State Road in Harrison Valley.
