Posted: October 8, 2012
The National Organic Program will soon be changing the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances to prohibit the use of sodium nitrate entirely. This change was schedule to become effective October 21, 2012, but more time is required to pass the rule and the effective date has not yet been published. More information can be found in this notation from Miles McEvoy, Deputy Administrator of the National Organic Program. Please contact your certifying agency if you have questions.
