The squash bee is one of the most important pollinators in pumpkin and squash crops.

Alex Surcică, a horticulture educator in Penn State's Franklin County Extension Office, is developing a field guide to Pennsylvania bees and wasps.

Preliminary bee and wasp identification templates can be found at www.facebook.com/4wasps. Your feedback is welcomed and can help improve the final version of the field guide.

This work is supported by a grant from the Northeastern Integrated Pest Management Center. Bee and wasp field guides are expected to be available free of charge for farmers and homeowners early next summer at Penn State Extension offices.
