Philadelphia Growers,

Last year many of you responded to the Penn State Center Philadelphia (PSCP) Needs Assessment Survey which was implemented to proactively identify issues of concern, receive feedback on current and prospective priorities, and engage key stakeholders in future decision-making processes.

Based on the survey responses, top priorities for PSCP to address in the next three years include:

  • Expanding Food and Nutrition Programs
  • Programs that Address Gardening
  • Enhancing Education and Information to Community

The Horticulture Program specifically, will be focusing on the following this growing season:

  • Overall Technical Assistance
  • Training and Information for Community Gardeners
  • Onsite Technical Assistance for Urban Growers

Respondents cited face to face workshops as the preferred method of information delivery with workshops for urban growers topping the list of educational programs or services desired from the PSCP.

As the Penn State Center Philadelphia Extension Team plans for programming in 2017, we would like to get your feedback on past programming and identify more specific workshop topics together that will best serve the Philadelphia Urban Farming and Gardening Community. We will be hosting a brainstorming session at the Center on Wednesday, March, 29, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided and potluck style dishes are welcomed. We look forward to receiving feedback from you all, and building programming together that is reflective of the needs of the Philadelphia growing community.
