Cornell Carbohydrate Model Results for May 1, 2017

For most places in Pennsylvania Saturday and Sunday showed a negative daily balance of carbohydrates, with the southeastern areas having very negative balances. Any chemical thinners applied during this period should have been effective in removing fruit. Tomorrow through Friday (May 2 to May 5) is expected to show cooling temperatures and overcast skies with the potential for rain. The carbohydrate balance will be positive in most sites and the model suggests that chemical thinning rates should be increased. Response may vary depending upon your stage of fruit development, temperatures, and chemical used.
