The email you will be receiving looks like this picture.

What is going on?

In 2003, the CAN-SPAM Act was signed into law and empowers the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to regulate and control the use of commercial electronic mail messages. Penn State Extension is launching its "requalification campaign" to ensure the entire Extension organization meets the requirement to be CAN-SPAM compliant. We also want to be sure we are sending the information You need so we may serve you better.

Why am I getting this email and / or letter?

All contacts that have provided an email address to Extension will receive an email that links to an online form, asking the contact a few short questions that will help Extension better understand the contact’s marketing wants and needs. All contacts that have provided a physical address to Extension will be receiving a letter asking for the same information, while providing the person with the option of completing the form online, or filling out and mailing in a hard copy.

Why do I have to do this again?

You may have recently filled out a postcard or signed up online to receive information.

You must still participate in this requalification process to continue to receive information from Extension.

This process will centralize Extension client communications to be sure your contact information and preferences are accurate. It also ensures our communications with you are compliant with the CAN-SPAM Act.

Who will be getting my information?

All requalification letters and electronic submissions will be handled centrally. No requalification letters, form submissions, or email notifications will be sent to the county offices. All letters, form submissions, and email notifications will be sent to and managed within the Agricultural Administration Building at University Park by the Ag Communications unit. Your information will not be shared outside of Penn State!

What should I do next?

When you receive the email or letter from Penn State, follow the directions in the letter or click on the link in the email to complete the process. A postage paid return envelope will be included for those responding to the letter. That's it!

Why is there a photo of ice cream in my email / letter?

By completing and submitting the form, you will be entered to win a cooler* full of Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream! Contest ends December 31, 2016.

*Cooler = 10 half gallons, flavors of choice, shipped to recipient’s door. Limit one entry per person.

Penn State Extension and Ag Communications thanks you for your cooperation and continued support and looks forward to continuing to improve Extension’s communications efforts!
