Carbon Balance Model Updates

Posted: May 9, 2012

Based on the predicted weather, the carbon balance model suggests we will be in a carbon surplus period. High temperatures for Thursday and Friday are not expected to get out of the upper 60’s.
Dr. Rob Crassweller, Penn State Professor of Horticulture

In most parts of the state we just came out of a carbon deficit situation. Research by Alan Lakso indicates that chemical thinners work optimally with deficits in the minus 20’s. Fruit size where the potential for a crop exists is rapidly increasing and in some areas may require stronger rates and more active compounds.
