Preparing small and mid-size growers of fruits and vegetables for on-farm food safety certification

Food-borne illness has affected spinach, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cantaloupes, and chili peppers in recent memory, and the project manager will use education, a food safety template, and technical assistance to show farmers how to document good agricultural practices and attain approval via third-party farm inspection. Of the 600 farmers who take the training, 300 will write a food safety plan and 150 will pass a USDA agricultural practices audit.  Funded by NE-SARE.
