Penn State Extension in Pike County is now accepting applications for the 2017-2018 Master Gardener Basic Training program. This volunteer training course is designed to provide experienced home gardeners with information and skills to serve as volunteer educators. Master Gardeners use research-based information to teach information on best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship.
In exchange for 40 hours of instruction, candidates must agree to volunteer 50 hours to the county Master Gardener Program within the first year and 20 hours each year thereafter to maintain certification.
There is a $200 program fee to cover the cost of training materials, the new Basic Training Manual and expenses.
The 2017-2018 basic training class will meet on Thursday evenings beginning October 5, 2017 through February 22nd with an exam in March of 2018. (No classes on 10/26 - leadership in-service, 11/23 - Thanksgiving and 12/28 - Christmas/New Years break) Classes will be held at the Pike County Training Facility using live ZOOM sessions.
