Tools of the Trade
March 26, 2015Gardening, no matter how much we enjoy it, is work.
Seed Starting and the War with Rabbits
March 11, 2015Have you planted some wonderful small young seedlings to have them become tasty morsels for your local rabbit family? Have you tried everything from scattering human hair, soap, hot peppers, and even fox urine to deter the rabbits and nothing worked?
Caring for Birds in the Winter
March 11, 2015Do you enjoy songbirds in your yard? Would you like to have more? Along with the butterflies and pollinators, they just make your garden come alive, and are so enjoyable to watch. While we enjoy the cozy warmth of our homes, the continuous cold weather and the fact that our gardens are pretty barren this time of year, make survival hard for the birds.
Container Gardening – Pops of Motivational Color in your Surroundings
March 10, 2015For those who have been “holed up” inside this winter, an interesting slant on what color does for us can carry on through from the winter months into spring and summer.
March 10, 2015Consider adding leeks to your spring vegetable garden. Leeks look like large scallions, having slightly enlarged lower stems and upright leaves, which are flat and thick, unlike onions’ tubular leaves. They are milder than onions and have a distinctive, though similar, flavor. Leeks are delicious additions to soups and stews. They can also be added to stuffing, gratins, and casseroles, or sautéed with other vegetables such as carrots.
