Youth Summer Garden Camp
June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29,
9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m
Location: Cumberland County Extension Office
Each session will include tasks in the garden, such as planting, weeding, watering, mulching, scouting, and harvesting. A variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers will be planted in the garden. Campers will take home produce they have grown, and extra produce will be given to Project SHARE. Each camper will receive a journal in which to record weather data, observations, and photographs.
June 17—Get Set to Grow!
Plant a tree; learn about weather stations; paint a garden sign; plan and plant your garden plot; what’s in a landfill?
July 1—Insects Rule
Find insects up close in the garden with an insect scientist; create a garden sculpture using old garden tools.
July 15—All Gourd Things
Learn about gourds in history and music; paint a bird gourdhouse.
July 29—Water Fun & Sun
Stream critters with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation; create a sun print; go on a scavenger hunt.
August 12—Summer’s Bounty
Make a puppet show happen; create tasty herb dips and salsa; what’s in a landfill?
Registration & Fees
This year, you may register your child for individual sessions at a fee of $9.80 per session, or $49.00 for all five camp sessions.
For additional children registering from the same family, a discount of $2.00 per session per child will be given (fee of $7.80 per session, or $39.00 for all five sessions).
The fee covers program materials, supplies, and snacks for each session. Each camper also receives a camp T-shirt. If your child has food allergies, we encourage you to send a snack along with your child.
Registration is limited to 16 campers per camp session. Registration is required by June 9, 2014. All registrations will be confirmed by mail along with required medical forms to be returned at the first camp session your child attends.
Registrations and payments received after a camp session is filled will be returned. Refunds will not be made for cancellations after June 9, 2014, or for no-shows.
