Youth Summer Garden Camp for Youth with Penn State Master Gardeners

Posted: May 23, 2017

Penn State Master Gardeners are offering a Summer Garden Camp for youth ages 7 to 12 or in grades 3 to 6 at the Penn State Extension office on Allen Road in Carlisle. Registration deadline is June 5th.

There will be five sessions of growing, learning, hands-on fun on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the following dates: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, and August 8, 2017.

Campers will learn about seeds, soil, composting, trees, fungi, mosses, and the environment in structured sessions that include time for working in the garden, science activities, crafts, games, snacks, exploration and journaling, all under the careful supervision of Penn State Master Gardeners. Activities planned include tree identification, starting plants from cuttings, preparing tasty treats from the garden, and a special visit on June 27 from Tracey Jones and her Tremendous Leadership furry friends. Campers harvest produce from their individual garden plots at each session to take home, along with recipes, and to donate to Project SHARE.

Camp size is limited to 20 campers per session, and campers may register for one to five sessions. Registration is required by June 5, 2017. The registration fee is $10.00 per session, with a discount offered for additional campers from the same family.

Campers registered for three or more sessions will receive a camp T-shirt.
