Early and Late Tomato Blights and Leaf Spot
September 3, 2015While working the Wrightstown Grange Fair “Ask a Master Gardener” help desk I had many home gardeners either report that this was a bad season for “tomato blight” or ask questions about “blight” and how it can be avoided or “cured.”
Erie County Master Gardeners Award Scholarships
August 31, 2015The Penn State Extension Erie County Master Gardeners established a scholarship in 2008 to assist students preparing for careers in horticulture, food and nutrition, environmental studies, landscape architecture and/or design. This year $2,000 in scholarships were awarded.
Black Rot on Grapes
August 17, 2015Weather conditions this year have been exceptionally favorable for black rot, and many home gardeners are having problems with it. Even if you are following the cultural control recommendations (proper pruning and removing diseased plant material from the vineyard), the disease may be ruining your grape harvest. If so, consider using a fungicide starting early next spring to protect your fruit.
Broadleaf Evergreens for Fragrance and Shade
