Master Gardener Program

The Master Gardener Program provides interested individuals with extensive training in many phases of gardening. In return, participants volunteer to teaching horticultural information to the public based on university research and recommendations.

New Master Gardener Manual now available!
Penn State Extension has published the newly updated Master Gardener Manual, an expansive guide containing a comprehensive inventory of gardening and landscape-management topics for home gardeners, students and professionals.
Poison Prevention Program Reaches 12,000 Students
Last year the Pesticide Education Program and county Master Gardener programs partnered to share a valuable lesson of poison prevention with 13,000 1st grade students across the state.

The Tomato Hornworm

Tomato hornworms are one of the garden’s largest caterpillars at nearly 3 to 4 inches long and about as big around as your little finger. They are green with diagonal white stripes with a black or reddish horn-like protrusion projecting from its rear end, hence hornworm.
