Weed Identification and Scouting: a Field Training in English and Spanish

Growers, managers, and agricultural and green industry workers are invited to participate in this in-field training on the identification, scouting and control of weeds. Safe and proper handling of herbicides will be demonstrated. Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) staff will present information about programs and technical assistance offered through the agency.

The first step in effective management of weeds is proper identification. Proper weed scouting provides information about weed pressure and the effectiveness of control measures. Each participant will receive a full-color guide entitled “Stubborn Weeds of Pennsylvania” (available in English and Spanish).

Session Topics (in English and Spanish):

  • weed identification and scouting
  • weed control for nursery, landscape and greenhouse operations
  • safe application of herbicides
  • USDA NRCS programs and technical assistance

Pesticide recertification credits (1 core and 2 category PC, 06, 07, 18, 22, and 23) have been granted by PDA. There is no charge for this meeting.

The workshop and weed guides are supported by a PDA Specialty Crop Block Grant titled "Sustainable Production and Pest Management Innovations for Next Generation Young and Latino Specialty Crop Growers" (Grant ME#44166076).



There is no fee to attend this event. However, pre-registration is requested.
