Shining Light on Shade Gardening

Penn State Master Gardeners in Cumberland County are volunteers trained by Penn State Extension to provide reliable, research-based home gardening information to the public through informal workshops and classes, demonstration gardens, and plant clinics.

Registration Details

Workshops are $5.00 each. This fee includes any handouts. Pre-registration and payment are requested at least one week prior to the date of the workshop. Walk-ins will be accepted only if space is available.

Plants that thrive in the shade don’t have the same pizzazz as their sun-loving counterparts, but they offer the pleasure of a cool garden spot when summer temperatures rise. Learn about the culture of shade-loving plants for moist and dry sites, from spring-blooming bulbs to winter-blooming

Door Prizes

Door prizes will be given at each workshop. At each workshop, you may enter the drawing to win the grand door prize, a Penn State Extension Master Gardener Manual (valued at $75.00), to be awarded at the last workshop of the season on October 24.
