The Second Saturday Gardening Series is a series of gardening workshops presented by the Penn State Master Gardeners in Philadelphia County held on the second Saturday of each month through November. The workshops are presented to the general public and gardening enthusiasts on a variety of gardening topics. The topic for June 8, 2013 is "Old Roses and Fragrances." Elizabeth Belk, a horticulturist at Wyck House and Garden in Philadelphia, is responsible for the care and propagation of over 70 cultivars of old roses at Wyck. Join her as she discusses the most fragrant roses at Wyck, their history, and care and the use in the home garden.
Landscape designer Debra Myers will lead a tour of her wildlife and native shrub garden on the Upper Delaware River on River Road, Damascus across from Callicoon, NY.
Penn State Master Gardeners are offering a Summer Garden Camp for youth ages 7 to 12 or in grades 3 to 6 at the Penn State Extension office on Allen Road in Carlisle. There will be five sessions of growing, learning, hands-on fun on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the following dates: June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, and August 6, 2013.

Not just another garden tour, the Gardening with Native Plants – The Tour is a great opportunity to learn how to make your yard more environmentally friendly. Sponsored by Penn State Extension and Mid-Atlantic Ecological Landscapes (MAEscapes) five homeowners in York County will open their properties on Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and show you how they are using native plants to conserve water, reduce pesticide and fertilizer use and create habitat for wildlife.

Session #4 - Growing, Preserving, and Using Herbs
Creator of the gardens at Brandywine Cottage, David Culp is an expert on garden layering and perennials. No where is his expertise more apparent than the majestic display of plants at his Brandywine Cottage, a garden listed in the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Gardens and regularly highlighted by Martha Stewart Living and HGTV.

The Second Saturday Gardening Series is a series of gardening workshops presented by the Penn State Master Gardeners in Philadelphia County held on the second Saturday of each month through November. The workshops are presented to the general public and gardening enthusiasts on a variety of gardening topics. The topic for November 9, 2013 is "Build a Terrarium Workshop." Terrariums, popular in the 70's, have rebounded in popularity. Lori Hayes, a Penn State Master Gardener in Philadelphia County, will show you how to design, make, and maintain these miniature gardens in a glass container. This is a hands-on workshop. Participants must provide a small glass container and plants will be available to purchase at the workshop. Space is limited to 20. Pre-registration is required.
