Annual Weeds in the Garden
August 20, 2014I don’t know about you, but crabgrass has been everywhere in my garden and lawn! Typically, I really don’t care about my lawn. It’s there to serve a purpose – that is provide a walking area to get from the vegetable garden to the chickens, to the perennial border, as well as providing that open area needed for the purple martins. However, the crabgrass is beginning to win a battle that I didn’t know was raging.
August 20, 2014This past Saturday, some folks pulled into the local nursery, asking about the pretty pink flowers that are blooming along the fields and roadsides. They thought they might want to get some of those plants for their garden. What they were seeing is purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria.
August 20, 2014During August, hybrid daylily bloom season is winding down except for the very late varieties, and, in some cases, the foliage is beginning to look pretty ratty with browned leaves or leaves with yellowed streaking.
August 20, 2014Believe it or not, there is a lot to know about watering your garden! You say you just turn on the sprinklers, or stand with the hose in the evening and sprinkle your gardens? Sorry. Wrong on both counts!
