2009-10 Demonstration Network
Penn State Extension's Crop Management Team and On-Farm Research Program established cover crop demonstration sites at 11 farms throughout Pennsylvania. At each site 9 cover crop monoculture and 8 cover mixtures were planted on two dates - late August and late September.
The monocultures included:
- Cereal Rye
- Triticale
- Wheat
- Annual Ryegrass
- Oats
- Tillage Radish
- Red Clover
- Phacelia
- Sunnhemp
The mixtures included:
- Cereal Rye + Hairy Vetch
- Oats + Hairy Vetch
- Cereal Rye + Tillage Radish
- Oats + Tillage Radish
- Oats + Tillage Radish + Austrian Winter Pea
- Oats + Crimson Clover
- Annual Ryegrass + Crimson Clover
- Annual Ryegrass + Austrian Winter Pea
Biomass samples were collected from the demonstration sites in November and April/May to evaluate performance of the cover crops.
