Penn State Extension Master Gardener Class of 2012 Commences

Posted: October 5, 2011

Penn State Extension is pleased to announce the commencement of the Master Gardener Class of 2012. Approximately three-quarters of applicants were accepted as a result of a competitive application process led by a panel of seasoned Master Gardeners.

Twenty-eight incoming Master Gardener interns are bringing their skills, interests and enthusiasm to fuel existing Extension projects in areas including youth horticulture, adult environmental education and demonstration gardens. To prepare them for indoctrination to the group, interns are currently attending a series of college level courses on horticultural related topics taught by University faculty and staff.

Kimberly Labno, the Master Gardener Coordinator for Philadelphia County Extension, enjoys working with the newcomers to facilitate their orientation to Extension work and the wider group of active Master Gardeners. As part of the learning experience, the interns are with Kimberly in creating short presentations on horticultural and environmental stewardship issues.
