Maria has been expanding both programs’ efforts to reach out the Latino Community by developing and adapting new, culturally-appropriate education and outreach materials, assessing the needs of the Latino Community for farm safety, pest management information, IPM solutions, pesticide and personal safety education in both urban and agricultural settings. Maria has also been working in conjunction with other Penn State departments and conducting training sessions, and presenting workshops and seminars in English and Spanish on various topics related to Farm Safety, Urban & Agricultural Integrated Pest Management and Food Safety in Pennsylvania. She initiated and currently is coordinating the regional Latino Community IPM Partnership (LCIP) and a sustained statewide and nationwide urban IPM outreach effort including Latino organizations, government agencies, consulates, Hispanic media, private companies and Spanish-speaking individuals. She is also conducting and coordinating Spanish ServSafe trainings in four counties.
For over 15 years, Maria has been extensively reaching out to the Latino Community nationally and internationally while working for Penn State and for other institutions in the US and Argentina. She worked for Inspectorate de Argentina S.A., an international third audit company, in the Agricultural Services Department where she coordinated the companies’ Agribusiness and Food Safety services for local farmers and international clients. After moving to Pennsylvania in 2000, she worked for ICT Group Inc. as the Spanish Marketing Medical Services consultant for the Pfizer Pharmaceuticals account.
She is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina and she has a BS in Agricultural Engineering and an MS in Animal Production from the Pontifical Argentine Catholic University. She is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese.
