Dealers
To become certified, each dealer manager will need to take and pass an exam, given by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). The deadline for obtaining this certification is December 11, 2012.
If a certified pesticide applicator is employed at the dealership, that person can be "grand-fathered" in to receive this new dealer manager certification. However, the deadline for this is still December 11, 2012. After this date, everyone wishing to be certified will need to take the exam. All exams until December 11, 2012 will be free.
The Penn State Pesticide Education Program has been working cooperatively with the PDA to develop a study manual to help dealer managers prepare for the exam. This manual is available for purchase through the Publications Distribution Center. In addition, several one-day trainings will be offered throughout the state to help dealer managers prepare for the exam.
Unlike certified pesticide applicators, once the exam is taken and passed, dealer managers will not need to attend recertification meetings to maintain their certification.
If you are a pesticide dealer selling restricted use pesticides to customers in Pennsylvania, you must have a certified dealer manager on staff by December 11, 2012. Penn State's Pesticide Education Program has announced another round of dealer manager certification training seminars to aid perspective dealer managers in preparation for the exam.
