Perry County 4-H
4-H is an educational program for youth.
4-H is a non-profit, volunteer based organization that allows young people to learn by doing -- and in 4-H, they can do just about anything they’re interested in! 4-H has traditional 4-H clubs for children who want to raise cows or ride horses, but 4-Her’s can also learn to cook, create clothing, learn how to fish, train a dog, conserve wildlife habitats, and much, much more!
Our 4-H clubs are led by talented and dedicated community volunteers. 4-H is also in Perry County’s public schools. Hundreds of young people complete a 4-H project as part of their studies each year. They participate in Eating Right is Basic II. For a complete listing of the 200+ possible projects available to 4-Hers, check out Penn State’s website.
In addition to youth from 8 to 18, volunteer leaders are always welcome too--so if you are an adult with an interest in just about any hobby or skill, there’s a spot in the 4-H program for you! 4-H is open to all children and volunteers--the program does not discriminate. Everyone is welcome! Contact the Penn State Extension, Perry County 4-H Office (717-582-5150) for information about volunteering.
4-H clubs typically meet once or twice per month, although some clubs get together more or less often. A club may be small enough to meet in a leader’s living room or large enough to reserve a meeting hall each month--each club is unique. Project materials or project animals are usually bought by each 4-Her’s family.
To join 4-H in Perry County, the costs include:
- $12 Educational Materials Fee
- $25 Horse Member Fee (only if joining the horse program)
- Cost of project materials
Talk to the 4-H leaders listed on the club directory page to find out which 4-H club is right for you or your child or contact the Penn State Extension, Perry County 4-H Office (717-582-5150) for information about joining an established club or if you are interested in starting a new 4-H club.

2012 County Council Awards
May 16 - July 2, 2012The idea for the County Council Awards program was conceived in 2006 by the 4-H State Council. In an effort to get Pennsylvania counties involved and persuade more of them to develop or enhance existing county programs, it was decided that there would be cash prizes awarded to the top three County Councils. Awards would be given based on standards set by state level faculty and staff in leadership development with 3rd place receiving $200.00, 2nd place receiving $300.00 and 1st place receiving $500.00. County Councils provide cohesion on the county level among the clubs and offer strong programming for the teen youth on all levels of the leadership ladder. -
