What to expect of a two year old
Pretend games are a favorite of this age group. Their fantasy play is very short and simple. They are still very self-centered and have difficulty sharing. They enjoy playing near other children.
The "terrible two's" are characterized by their assertiveness and their common use of the word "no". Children this age sometimes do the opposite of what is asked and are frustrated easily. They can name and point to pictures. They have a vocabulary of 500-1000 words. They can use "I", "me," and "you".
Two-year-olds like to imitate the behavior of adults and others. They like to help with household tasks. Parents can encourage this play by providing dolls, housekeeping toys, dress-up clothes, and toy telephones.
