SUMMARY:Webinar\: Water Resource Management for Marcellus Natural Gas
DESCRIPTION:Water is a critical ingredient in unlocking the vast natur
al gas resources of the Marcellus shale by utilizing the hydraulic fra
cturing technology. Several million gallons of water\, sand\, and a r
elatively small concentration of chemical additives are combined and i
njected into the shale formation at high pressure to open fractures in
the bedrock which allow the natural gas to flow from the shale\, thro
ugh the fractures\, and into the gas well. Transferring the millions
of gallons of water from public water supplies or surface water intake
s to the well sites via trucking and/or pipelines is a complex and cos
tly undertaking\, therefore efficient water management is necessary to
minimize the potential for adverse environmental and transportation i
mpacts. This presentation will provide insight on industry practices
that can allow the natural gas to be developed while minimizing undesi
rable side effects to water resources and roadways.
