Webinar: Water Resource Management for Marcellus Natural Gas

Water is a critical ingredient in unlocking the vast natural gas resources of the Marcellus shale by utilizing the hydraulic fracturing technology. Several million gallons of water, sand, and a relatively small concentration of chemical additives are combined and injected into the shale formation at high pressure to open fractures in the bedrock which allow the natural gas to flow from the shale, through the fractures, and into the gas well. Transferring the millions of gallons of water from public water supplies or surface water intakes to the well sites via trucking and/or pipelines is a complex and costly undertaking, therefore efficient water management is necessary to minimize the potential for adverse environmental and transportation impacts. This presentation will provide insight on industry practices that can allow the natural gas to be developed while minimizing undesirable side effects to water resources and roadways.
