The 6th grade classes of Dutch Ridge Elementary in the Beaver Area School District culminated their Trout in the Classroom Project at the end of April by releasing 160 fingerling trout into Brady’s Run.

Freedom! The classroom trout are released to their new home.

In the week before the release, students took park in a program on watersheds presented by Extension Educator, Susan Boser, to tie in the need for healthy watersheds for fish habitat. On the release day, each student was able to release a trout that had been reared from an egg in their classroom into the creek ecosystem. Well wishes were given to the fish as they were gently lowered into their new home. The program will continue with next year’s 6th grade students as well.
