Drug Take Back Event Set for Saturday, April 28, 2012
Posted: January 31, 2012
Nationally, the October 2011 event collected more than 377,086 pounds or 188.5 tons of unwanted or expired medications for safe and proper disposal. There were 5,327 take back sites available in all 50 states and U.S. territories. When the three prior take back events are combined, 995,185 pounds or 498.5 tons of medication have been safely removed from circulation. These large amounts demonstrate the need to develop a convenient way to rid homes of unwanted drugs. DEA continues work on establishing a convenient drug disposal process and will continue to offer the take-back events until a more permanent system can be created. Pennsylvania citizens can take advantage of the Saturday, April 28, 2012, take back event and avoid disposing of unwanted or expired medications down the toilet, which endangers our water resources.
