Labor Market Information for Pennsylvania’s Shale Related Economic Activity

Posted: September 8, 2013

PA Department of Labor & Industry provides current snapshots of labor market information through their monthly Fast Facts publications.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s Center for Workforce Information & Analysis (CWIA) produces and provides current, objective and credible workforce and economic statistics and analysis.  One monthly report the Center provides is the Marcellus Shale Fast Facts.  These monthly reports provide the most current available data on Marcellus Shale related economic activity.  The fast facts use the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) as a primary source of information.

Core and ancillary industries are reviewed for changes in employment, and additional information on employer demand and hiring activity are also included.  The reports may provide economic background information, as well as statistics, number employed in these industries by year and quarter, average wages, new hires, and high-priority occupations.  Regional reports by Workforce Investment Areas are also available.  Marcellus Shale Fast Facts can be found on the PA Dept. of Labor & Industry site at
