Upcoming Penn State Programs in Western Pennsylvania
Posted: January 20, 2013
Penn State will be holding two programs in a variety of locations within the next month. “Seismic Testing, Pipeline Agreements, and Leasing Update” will include Dan Brockett and Jon Laughner with the Penn State Marcellus Education Team. Dan and Jon will provide information on seismic testing and pipeline right-of-ways and what options may be available for landowners. “Do Landowners Under Conventional Lease Have Options?" will mainly be geared to leased landowners. Natural gas drillers have been producing the fuel from "conventional" gas reservoirs for over 150 years. New shale gas production techniques have opened much wider areas for exploration, including the Marcellus, Utica, and Upper Devonian Shale formations. Many landowners in northwestern Pennsylvania may have their property leased for the purposes of conventional gas production, but may be approached to have their lease amended in order to meet unit size standards or other conditions of unconventional shale gas production. This Workshop is intended to help landowners under lease to understand what their options might be if shale gas production is going to occur.
