A changing climate and mounting threats from pests and diseases pose challenges to ensuring the continued health of the urban forest. Subjects such as assisted migration, phenotypic plasticity, monotypic species, urban microclimates, and hardy cultivars will be discussed. One example will be southern magnolias thriving for many years as street trees in upstate New York.
