Pelletizing Biomass
This ongoing project studies the properties and performance of biomass pelletizing systems, and their use for energy production.
Pellet fuel is a convenient, economical way to provide renewable heat for homes, businesses, and facilities in Pennsylvania and beyond. At Penn State, we are working to help farmers and small scale operators understand how to successfully produce high quality pellets from crop residues, perennial grasses, and other biomass feedstocks.
Some of the materials we are working with include:
- Switchgrass
- Corn Stover
- Field Hay
- Distillers Grain
- Oat Straw
Stay tuned as this project continues, we will be posting results of this work, including recommendations for use of small scale pelleting systems.
