PA CleanWays Removes Large Tractor Tires
Posted: October 10, 2012
PA CleanWays of McKean County, an affiliate of Keep PA Beautiful, piloted a large tractor recycling program this past Tuesday, October 9, 2012. The program was offered for the first time to municipalities. PA CleanWays arranged for a tractor trailer to move through the county and collect large tractor tires. This program was not open to the public and was a learning experience for the group. Seventy-nine large tires were collected filling the truck. Participating municipalities included Annin, Keating, Liberty, Norwich, Otto, and Wetmore Townships. Penn State Extension Educator, Jim Clark, stated “I am very glad we were able to complete this project, because these large tires cannot be collected during our regular tire recycling event. Large tires can hold water and breed a lot of mosquitoes which can carry West Nile Virus.”
