Envirothon Study Day Events
Posted: May 8, 2012
Local Penn State Extension Educator, Jim Clark, assisted the local Conservation Districts in Cameron, Elk, McKean, and Potter counties by presenting at three Envirothon Study Day events. Each year there is a current theme portion of the Envirothon contest and Clark prepares the students for this competition. The current theme this year is on non-point source pollution and using low impact development to reduce this pollution. The students learned that the storm drains in our streets lead directly to the nearest waterway and there is no treatment of this water. Therefore, it is important not to put waste down these storm drains. 149 high school students participated and 138 of the students who attended Clark’s class stated it helped them understand the non-point source pollution issue.
