Aerial tubing systems are set up so that at every step in the process the sap is flowing down hill or is under some sort of positive pressure. Dips in the line will reduce flow dramatically. In general, a tubing system consists of a storage tanks with a mainline feeding sap into it. The sap runs from the tree through a spile, and into the dropline, from there it goes into the lateral through a mainline connector through the mainline and into the storage tank.
Dropline
Sap runs throught a spile and into the dropline. Droplines are sections of tubing approximately 18 inches long used to connect spiles to tee connectors in the mainline.
Laterals
Sap runs through a droplines and into a lateral. Laterals lines are sections of tubing used to conduct sap to the mainline.
Mainline connector
Mainline connectors come in several types that are installed either by cutting the mainline or puncturing the mainline. These connectors allow sap coming from the laterals to enter the mainline.
