Gardening for Butterflies
Posted: July 7, 2011
One of the wonderful sights of summer is butterflies fluttering lazily amongst the garden plants. To attract butterflies to your home, you may want to consider planting a butterfly-friendly garden that contains both adult nectar plants and caterpillar host plants. Items to consider when trying to attract butterflies are:
* A sunny location sheltered from the wind
* Host and nectar plants to attract all stages of butterfly development
* Minimal or no pesticide use
* Additional enhancements such as rocks, wet sand or mud puddles, or ‘sugar’ sources such as overripe fruit
