Individual Assistance for Gardeners
Posted: June 28, 2011
Penn State Extension in Lehigh County welcomes questions from home gardeners. With the help of our Master Gardener volunteers, we answer thousands of questions each year and patiently teach the public about the natural world. Our goal is to help home gardeners make wise choices both about pesticide use and their gardening purchases. These goals guide every event and service we provide. We are successful when we help home gardeners choose the least toxic pest control option and avoid expensive gardening mistakes.
How do residents reach us? Many call in during business hours. Some bring a sample of their plant or insect to the office for individual assistance. Others "Ask the Master Gardener" through our blog by commenting on a post or by sending a question through the form found under the Gardening Resources button. Find our blog at < http://blogs.mcall.com/master_gardeners >.
This individual assistance is especially unique because we recommend only research-proven solutions, and we do not promote specific products. An unbiased discussion helps the home gardener make the best decisions with no pressure to purchase a particular solution. Home gardeners have told us how this assistance has changed the way they think and act:
"I have become so much more alert to the impact that my gardening habits have on the environment and my own health."
"Really helped me understand the role of beneficial insects instead of wiping everything out with a spray."
