This year, EPA Region III’s Beyond Translation Initiative partners with the Academy of Natural Science’s Urban Sustainability Forum program. At the May forum, join us to consider how to make green space more accessible in our city, particularly in traditionally underserved communities. The afternoon session (1:00pm-4:45pm) consists of workshops and small group discussions on perceived safety in open spaces, as well as beautification’s impact on cultural preservation. The evening session (6:00pm-8:30pm) offers a panel on the transformation of public space to best serve our communities. Come for all or part of the day!

Identifying and using more sustainable cleaning chemicals is an important part of every green cleaning program. What is frequently less recognized are efforts to reduce the number of chemicals used in a program and the advances in recent years that have made this possible. In this webinar, speakers will share current advances that are creating opportunities for schools to clean with fewer chemical products through technologies such as water-based cleaning, microfiber and more.

Bats and Bat Management Webinar

Bats are unique creatures in the animal kingdom. They are mammals that can truly fly and many use sonar to echolocate insect prey.
Bats are very beneficial in the environment, but they can cause problems when they occupy our homes, schools, and other structures. Most problems are associated with the guano they leave behind and potential for transmitting diseases to humans, especially rabies and histoplasmosis. We will discuss how to recognize signs of bats and how to conduct a bat watch. Exclusion is the key to managing bat problems, so we will cover how to keep bats out and how to evict them if they get in.

A person suffering from delusional infestation (DI) has a fixed belief that his or her skin and body is infested by pathogens, despite lack of evidence. Sometimes the supposed infestation includes the close environment. The condition is also known as delusional parasitosis and Ekbom's syndrome. Dealing with DI can be time consuming, frustrating, and unproductive. Often, the suffer bounces between pest management professionals, entomologists, and dermatologists looking for confirmation. Attend this webinar to learn about DI and your role in managing these cases from two leading experts on DI.

POISON IVY grows and thrives over much of the humanly inhabited regions of North America. Between 75 and 80 percent of us are at risk of suffering from a skin rash caused by the resins present in this dangerous plant. Although some people can correctly identify poison ivy, many cannot. If you would like to learn more about and correctly be able to identify poison ivy (and their subspecies) then we highly recommend attending this conference. You will learn what these mysterious and pervasive plants look like and where they are likely to be found.
