An estimated 500 families visited the Indiana Mall for "Festasaurus!" Nearly 50 4-H people were involved with the petting zoo, a horse "dinosaur" matching game, and a horse paper bag puppet craft. Thirty-five people from Indiana County were involved with the program. Several leaders were also honored with awards. Marjie Bezilla, Shawnee Riders, was honored as an Outstanding Leader and recognized for 40 years of service and her dedication to the horse program. Over 300 youth attended the conference which was designed to teach leadership skills. Local participants included Jesse Isenberg, Gordon; Alexandra Swauger, Northern Livestock; Garrett Richardson and Marshall Richardson, Marion Center Handy Helpers; Alexis Elgin, Bunny Bunch; Sarah McConnell, Southern Dairy, and Mary Ann Ostach, Faithful Furry Faces. Leader Lori Richardson, Marion Center Handy Helpers, served as chaperone. “Leadership, Your Golden Ticket” was the conference theme. Josh Shipp served as a motivational speaker. He is the host of the TV show “JUMP SHIPP” and author of “The Teen’s Guide to World Domination”. Each participant engaged their hands and minds in several workshops including creativity and writing, eight essential elements, managing stress, mentoring skills, career readiness, effective meetings, public speaking, and leadership styles. As a community service project, participants collected silver tabs and coins in a “Food Checkout Day” campaign to provide funds for the PA Farm Bureau’s support of the five Ronald McDonald houses in the state.
