Teresa Shields Attends National 4-H Congress

Teresa Shields, Indiana County 4-H member, was a recent participant in National 4-H Congress held in Atlanta, GA. Shields was one of thirty participants from Pennsylvania. Nearly 900 outstanding 4-H members from 45 states and territories came together for the event that has occurred for more than 90 years. This year’s theme was “Excite, Spark, and Ignite”.

Shields is the daughter of Shirley and Jim Shields, Clarksburg. She is a member of Great Egg-spectations and Gordon 4-H Clubs. Her project work has included poultry and horticulture. She has served as a regional camp counselor and attended State Teen Conference, Teen Leader Retreat, Poultry 101, and State Achievement Days. She has won Outstanding Horticulture, Small Animal, and News Reporter awards. Shields also has won several awards for her project books and serves as a 4-H Ambassador. She has developed an outstanding 4-H record that includes involvement in county, regional, and state activities.

National 4-H Congress is the flagship event of the 4-H program. The program featured a variety of sessions, seminars, discussion groups, and a service learning experience for the delegates. Delegates participated in informational and skill building workshops, an international dinner, and inspirational assemblies. Conference speakers included Stedman Graham; Kayla Martell, Miss Delaware 2010; Dan Clark, author, and Betty Cantrell, Miss America.

The delegates were also exposed to many venues in the city including Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coca-Cola, Atlanta Zoo, CNN Center, and the Martin Luther King Center.
