Services Offered
In Schuylkill County we provide classes to help limited income adults and senior citizens learn how to:
• Stretch food dollars
• Plan and prepare tasty, healthful meals
• Handle food in a safe manner
• Use SNAP benefits and other resources wisely
Participants must be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but don’t have to be currently receiving SNAP benefits.
We also work in several schools, preschools and community locations to teach youth how to:
• Select low-cost nutritious foods
• Prepare healthy foods
• Handle food in a safe manner
• Eat a variety of foods
• Increase physical activity
All classes for youth,adults and senior citizens are free. Classes include hands-on activities and food tastings whenever possible.

Impact Reports
In 2010 we provided classes to 201 adult participants at food food pantries, community centers, housing developments and senior centers.
Many food tastings were conducted at food pantries to introduce healthy foods that could be made with the items being distributed.
Classes were conducted in Head Start centers reaching 72 preschoolers. Topics focsed on identifying and tasting a variety of foods.
We also provided classes to 2,692 school age youth.
School classes focused on the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and food safety.
