General Information - Site Leader Training
8:30 am – 4:30 pm (Registration and breakfast begin at 8:30 am)
Who Should Attend
Professionals in the fields of public health, allied health and/or community leaders who have a strong commitment to starting a StrongWomen strength training program. Participants should be strength training for a minimum of 6-8 weeks or more before attending this training.
Program Benefits
The benefits of strength training for older women have been studied extensively and include:
- Increased muscle mass and strength
- Improved bone density and reduced risk for osteoporosis and related fractures
- Reduces risk for diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression, and obesity
- Improved self-confidence, sleep and vitality
Included in the Registration Fee
- StrongWomen™ Toolkit, a manual that includes all information needed to safely promote, start, implement and maintain the StrongWomen programs (2 separate exercise programs are included in the Toolkit)
- Day-long training including light breakfast, lunch and breaks
- Participation in the Senior Fitness Assessment activity that you will be using as part of the StrongWomen program you conduct
- A PowerPoint presentation for marketing informational meetings for your program
- Exercise demonstrations, practice, and sessions for Site Leaders to learn exercises as well as how to teach exercises to StrongWomen participants.
- Support in getting your community program started
- StrongWomen T-shirt
- Posters and background information about the research behind the program
You Will Need
- At least one adjustable ankle weight (5 or 10 lb.)
- At lease one set of dumbbells (1, 3 or 5 lb. pairs)
- Large towel or exercise mat for the floor exercises
- A regular size bath towel
- Water
What to Wear
Wear comfortable exercise clothing, socks and athletic shoes or “sneakers”
