Wellness Road Map
This four part series offers a road map of actions you can take to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. Information on personal risk assessment, becoming more active and making healthful food choices are presented. Curriculum developed by Carla Miller and J. Lynne Brown.
UK051 - If you are over 40, it is especially important to learn ways to keep your health. This 20-page publication is the first in a series about things people can do to set up a simple wellness plan. It includes common questions and answers, a family health history worksheet, a fact sheet on smart food choices, and recipes for low-fat desserts.
UK052 - As we age, more of us will develop non-insulin dependent diabetes, also called type 2 diabetes. This 16-page publication includes information about the symptoms of type 2 diabetes and who is likely to develop it, a worksheet to help estimate risk for type 2 diabetes, information about the safety of artificial sweeteners, and recipes using artificial sweeteners.
UK053 - Regular physical activity is the foundation of a wellness program. This 20-page publication covers the benefits of regular exercise activities and explains how to find your target heart rate for exercise, choose an exercise shoe, put together an exercise program, and more. It also features recipes for energy snacks.
UK054 - Picking foods with less saturated fat and more fiber can be a difficult task. This 18-page publication explains how to use the Food Guide Pyramid and Nutrition Facts panel on food labels to make healthy food choices. It includes recipes that will help readers choose a diet with plenty of grain products, vegetables, and fruits.
